About
Us
The Bohemian Shepherd Club of North America was started in 2017.
Our first endeavors were to translate many European Chodský Pes club websites in order to better understand the breed and each European club’s regulations for the breed.
We have learned much and are now trying to start a cooperation with these clubs to share information about the breed.
Currently, to our knowledge, there are about 46 Bohemian Shepherds in all of North America. Also, to our knowledge, there are no breeders here in North America. One litter was born several years ago in California, but the owner went through the Czech club for bonitation, showing, breeding approval, and the actual breeding. For those of you unfamiliar with the term bonitation, it is the Czech club’s process of judging a dog for breeding purposes. The dog is given a code to recognize its deviation from the perfect standard for the breed. It is a valuable tool.
Our club’s greatest concern is that people wanting to breed the Bohemian Shepherd in North America will disregard the needed rules and regulations which help to safeguard the health, temperament and structure of these dogs. This club’s goal is not only to educate, inform, and provide guidance to potential Bohemian Shepherd owners/breeders, but most importantly to protect the breed, which is to everyone’s benefit.
AKC Foundation Stock Service acceptance
FCI
The Bohemian Shepherd was accepted into the AKC Foundation Stock Service (FSS) in March 2019. This is not a registration and will not be the source of registration paperwork.
This resource is used to start tracking the breed here in North America and to begin the process of AKC recognition, which will take many years.
In April 2019, the Chodský Pes was recognized provisionally by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI). This accomplishment was a tremendous feat that took the Czech club at least 10 years of hard work to accomplish.
Currently, the BSCNA encourages anyone wanting a puppy to visit the Czech club website, http://www.kpchp.org and translate the information in order to better learn about the breed in its homeland. If you have trouble, we can help.
